Rio Grande Perch
Rio Grande Perch are made up mostly of pale white and dark grey, or grayish blue spots over the majority of their bodies, looking closely you can also usually observe some stripes of coloration on the rear or back-end areas too.
Depending upon such conditions as the algae count, and the main food source for the fish, the coloration can very to shades of blue, green,olive, grey and other colors. Many anglers consider Rio Grande Perch to be one of the prettiest fish to catch.
Rio Grande Perch survive just fine in areas where the water tends to stay slightly warm, as they do not tolerate cold water temperature very much. Rivers, lakes, ponds and streams all provide great areas for them to live.
Rio Grande Perch spawn in the spring months of March to early May, depending upon what the water temperature has risen too and leveled off at, in the location where the fish live.
Rio Grande Perch are a very food aggressive fish, in that they constantly dig into the sand, rocks, and soil on the bottoms of the water they inhabit. They aggressively seek out decayed plants as well as small live plants, small crabs, and other aquatic life found near or on the bottoms, as well as eggs deposited from other fish, and even small life fish.
When fishing for Rio Grande Perch keep in mind that they love eating small crabs and crayfish, they also seem to love insects such as crickets and grasshoppers.
Other baits that anglers have used to catch them are worms, as well as meal worms and red wigglers, and even small minnows and other such bait fish.
