Spotted Bass
Spotted Bass appear to fishermen that are unfamiliar with them as smallmouth bass, but if examined closely you will notice that Spotted Bass have slightly smaller mouths. The main body color is usually shades of green in color, with the underside or belly area, being cream or chalkish white colored.
Depending upon where you live, spawning usually takes place in the spring when water temperature reaches an average of 62 to 67 degrees. Spotted Bass can live in reservoirs, streams and rivers. They prefer bodies of water that are large, very deep and with strong current.
They tend to stay together in groups or schools, and once you hook one, you may catch several more by fishing or casting into the same area.
Spotted Bass tend to stay away from debris, such as fallen trees, logs, stumps and even weedy areas, preferring instead to hand around the deep, heaving flowing currents of the main stream or river. Great baits to catch Spotted Bass on are live grasshoppers, crickets and crayfish. Top largemouth bass lures, also work great for catching Spotted Bass, including spinners, plastic worms and jig's.
