Yellowtail Rockfish

The Yellowtail Rockfish has a main body that is mostly brownish-tan to brownish-yellow in color, with colors or shading that get cream or pale colored near the bottom and belly area, the fins are a nice greenish-yellow to all yellow color. Yellowtail Rockfish are a very strong and hearty fish, if not injured by anglers, or killed when young due to predators, accidents or disease, they can live to be over half a century old.

Yellowtail Rockfish tend to live in ocean waters, especially water of the Pacific ocean. As their name implies they are often found foraging and hanging around rocks and stone bottoms of the water they inhabit, they can survive at great depths, often close to depths of 2000 feet deep.

Yellowtail Rockfish like to feed on other small fish, crayfish, crabs, small lobsters, snails and other critters. Fishing is done for Yellowtail Rockfish commercially using boats called trawlers hauling nets behind them, and by anglers using fishing poles. Many fishermen like to bait their hooks with small pieces of cut bait fish, or even pieces of squid, scallop meat or octopus.
